Whittle Down Your Wardrobe

No matter how rich you are, whether it was a gift or not, non-used clothes are clutter. When you have so many clothes that they can’t fit into the closets of a normal home, you have too many! You have better things to do than sort through a dry-goods inventory every morning just to get dressed. I once cleaned a woman’s closet that had ninety-four blouses, and most were out of style or didn’t fit. Why are you clogging your closet with things you rarely wear? or never, that doesn’t keep you warm and dry or permit comfortable movement?

Know yourself and think use:

  1. If the color or cut is not flattering to you,——donate.

  2. If you have to suck in your stomach, you can’t bend over or move your arms, or it is itchy—-donate.

  3. If it is too complicated, if you have to wrap, tuck, or tie it just so, or if you must straighten the sash or pull the bodice up every ten minutes—-donate.

  4. If it is too fragile, if you can only wear it where there won’t be food, drink, animals, or children and where it won’t be too hot because you don’t want to sweat in it or too cold because a coat or jacket will wrinkle it —get rid of it; don’t make other people uncomfortable.

  5. If it is badly damaged or has an important piece missing—-get rid of it.

  6. If it needs to be altered or repaired before you wear it,—-get rid of it. You will never remember to do this.

  7. If it is over half a century old—get rid of it.

Go through your closet and leave everything you consistently wear and feel good in; now, donate or eliminate the rest.

Remember: When the best dressers are dressed, no one even notices what they are wearing

My next blog will be about shoes—- stay tuned! it will be soleful!
