Green Cleaning Tips For Dog Owners

Spring is in the air, and suddenly thoughts of a clean house are filling your head. But a clean house full of toxoc residue won't be any better for your dog.

Your pets spend a lot of time licking themselves after lying around on the floor, so it's important to clean with safe cleaning products. These tips will get you started on a clean toxin free home that will make your dog feel better. Some of these tips are from an article I wrote for Dog Fancy magazine, when I was a contributing writer for them.

  • Wipe your dog's pawa before she comes indoors.

  • Vacumm your carpet and furniture with a vacuum cleaner that has a sealed Hepa filter. The sealed filter keeps picked-up dirt in the vacuum, so it doesn't blow back in the air.

  • Get your carpet cleaned by a company that uses dog-friendly solutions. OR buy yourself a Hoover Smartwash carpet cleaner. This carpet cleaner is easy to use, for quick clean-ups and I don't use any cleaning solution in it; which leaves my carpet reside free. (I don't work for the company and I'm not a distributor.) I just happen to like the product a lot. I liked it so much I bought on for each of my daughters anf they are they are thrilled with it. They both have dogs.

  • Wash you floors with a little vinager and a bucket of warm water. Always dry any floor after washing to prevent your dog's paws from slipping when she runs across the floor.

  • To remove a bad stain on your carpet, mix one cup of white vinegar with four cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray the spot, and allow it to set for a few minutes, then rub with a damp cloth, Sprinkel the area with one cup of baking soda, ( don't be surprised if it bubbes) When the mixture is completely dry, vacuum thoroughly. Always test in a hiden area first. The spray soultion cleans the spot and the baking soda removes odors.

Nontoxic cleaing can give you satisfaction in knowing that your home is a place where your dog can relax without absorbing chemicals.

And if you are interested in making your own safe cleaning products my book Teaching Children to Clean has all that information.

Happy Cleanig!
