Exercise Advice for the New Year

Hey there! Today, I want to talk about exercise. Yes, that dreaded word that makes us all want to curl up in a ball and hide under the covers. But don't worry, I'm not here to give you a lecture on why you need to exercise or how it can benefit your health. Instead, I want to share with you some funny and relatable moments that happen when we try to get fit, and some advice to save you some money.

Let's start with the classic struggle of getting out of bed early for a morning workout. You set your alarm for 6 a.m. with all the best intentions, but when it goes off, you hit snooze and roll over for "just five more minutes." Before you know it, it's 7:30 a.m. and you've missed your workout window.

Or maybe you're like me and you've tried every fad exercise trend out there. From Zumba to hot yoga to pole fitness, you've given it your all. But no matter what you do, you always end up feeling like a hot mess. Literally. Because let's face it, sweating profusely in public is not a good look.

And don't even get me started on the dreaded gym selfie. You know the one I'm talking about. You're trying to capture the perfect shot of your post-workout glow, but instead, you end up looking like a sweaty tomato with a forced smile.

In our book “ Are You a Junkaholic,” we discuss how we have junked up exercise. Whatever happened to going swimming, taking a hike, jumping rope, or fishing? We have junked up exercise!!

Fishing was a quiet, inexpensive way to relax until junk took over. The cost has soared from nothing to $200.00 a pound. The free worms are now $10.00 lures, the wooden pole has been replaced by a $500.00 graphite rod, and the number of devices you can buy to catch a poor fish is awe-inspiring.

We even junked up running; no more putting on your tennis shoes and a sweatband and hitting the track; now running requires special shoes, cushioned socks, knee braces, suits, and headbands. You must add a “unique watch” to tell you how far you have run, how tired you are, and what day of the week you are running.

We suggest getting a gym membership before buying a lot of unneeded exercise equipment. They are reasonable in price, and you can sometimes get a weekly one: do this to evaluate your dedication to exercise. The cost will be less, and you won’t have a lot of unused equipment taking up space in your home.

Despite all the challenges and occasional embarrassing moments, there's something satisfying about pushing yourself to your limits and achieving your fitness goals. So, don't give up, my fellow exercise enthusiasts. Keep on moving and remember to laugh at yourself along the way.
